Advantage Valley among Kellogg grant finalists

Published: Wednesday, March 23, 2005 by Charleston Gazette

The Advantage Valley Entrepreneurship Development System is one of six finalists to receive up to $2 million from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Advantage Valley serves eight counties in West Virginia, Boyd and Greenup counties in Kentucky and Lawrence County Ohio. Finalists were introduced at “The State of 21st Century Rural America: Implications for Policy and Practice,” in Washington, D.C.

More than 180 groups applied for the grants.

The money would be used to “promote entrepreneurial activity ... produce entrepreneurial models for other communities, leverage significant investment, and stimulate national and state interest in rural entrepreneurship policies and strategies,” according to a release from the Kellogg Foundation.

The program is part of an initiative by the foundation as part of the organization’s 75th anniversary.
